Their control is not always easy because the larvae hide in amongst clothes (which should not be directly treated with insecticides) or within carpets (which are difficult to penetrate). Thorough cleaning deters moth but once you have a problem you will probably require chemical application to gain control, although some may prefer the moth pheromone trapping approach. You can use the Moth Pheromone Traps to determine where the problems are but these will attract only the adult male moths, which may have already laid eggs on material. To treat cupboards and wardrobes we suggest you empty totally, clean, spray lightly with Procontrol Aerosol or Pro-Active-C, allow to dry, re-introduce the clothes. You can place clothes in poly bags and freeze them (squeeze out air) for 72 hours at maximum frost setting to kill moth larvae and probably eggs.To treat carpets, remember that these carpet moth larvae will be deep seated in the carpet, you need to lift the edges and spray the reverse of the carpet up to at least 2 feet from the outer edge. Then treat the surface of the carpet concentrating on areas that do not get regular traffic. Test a small area for colour fastness before treating. For a 15' x15' room you will probably need one Trigger Spray of ProActive-C.You need to re-treat after 30 days then you will have made a very significant impact into the moth problem. Make sure you spray under skirting boards as these can hide moth larval stages.Click here to visit an even more informative Moth Control website!click here to read Rachel Simhon's (Daily Mail ex Telegraph) superb feature on dealing with clothes moth
