How to deal with dead rodent smells ?

🧭 Step 1: Locate the Source (If Possible)

If you can find where the rodent died, removing the carcass is the fastest way to eliminate the smell. Check:

Behind or under appliances (fridge, cooker)

Inside walls, attics, or crawl spaces

Inside ductwork or vents

💡 Tip: If the odour is strongest near an outlet, vent, or baseboard, it might be inside a wall cavity.

🧤 Step 2: Remove and Clean the Area

Once you find it:

Wear gloves and a mask.

Spray the area with a disinfectant

Double-bag the carcass in plastic and dispose of it outdoors in a sealed trash bin.

Wipe the area again and let it dry.

💨 Step 3: Ventilate and Neutralize Odours

Even after removal, the smell can linger. Try:

Open windows and use fans to increase airflow.

Odour-absorbing gels/bags (like Ona or Earthcare bags) near the source.

Avoid just covering it with air freshener — it’ll mix and make it worse.

🧰 Step 4: If You Can’t Find the Source

If the smell is strong but the source is hidden (like inside a wall):

Place Odour-absorbing gels/bags (like Ona or Earthcare bags) near the source.

Professional cleanup may be needed if it’s inaccessible.

🧹 Step 5: Prevent Future Incidents

Seal entry points (gaps under doors, wall cracks, vents).

Store food securely and remove clutter.

Set traps or call pest control to check for more rodents.
